APPLIED WHILE USING THE FINCH ROBOT

Math
Standard 1
Substandard D:
Solve two-step and three-step
problems using concepts such as rules
of exponents, rate, distance, ratio and
proportion, and percent.
Students will estimate distance
traveled and use ratios to determine
how far a much larger robot would
travel.

This Week We Used a Finch Robot!


The Finch Robot is an amazing, fun tool
for learning. Here is what it can do:

Can sense their local


surroundings.
Act on their local environment
by making sound, light, and
moving in any direction.
Are coded to do many different
things by students at their
computer.

Can be re-coded as many times


as you wish.

Operate on their own after


coding.

Science

Use appropriate International System
of Units
Students will measure distance
traveled in centimeters.

Music
STANDARD 4: Music Appreciation
The student understands and uses
musical tools, including active
listening to create and evaluate
original works.
Students will pick a theme song for
their Finch robot. Other students will
evaluate originality of theme songs.

State Standards Continued

Social Studies
Content Standard 8: The student will
analyze the role of entrepreneurs in a
market economy.
Students will discuss the income
potential of making and selling Finch
robots.

Language Arts
Standard 1: Interpret Meaning
Document the use of stereotypes and
biases in visual media.
Students will compare stereotypes in
media about robots with the Finch
robot.

This has been an exciting week for the class.


We want to thank East Central University for
providing the Finch robots for us to use this
week. Especially would like to thank Dr.
Jessica Koch for her help and inspiration for
this exciting lesson for our students!
