REFLECTION | PUBLIC ART

DUE:________________
1. Read Harriet Senies article, Richard Serra's "Tilted Arc": Art
and Non-Art Issues, found on our class website.
2. Research: Do a little research so you know what the Tilted Arc
looked like and the discourse and opinions that surround the
Tilted Arc controversy.
3. Reflect: Form your own opinion about what you think should
have happened in the case of Richard Serras Tilted Arc.
Consider the role of public art. Reflect on what we have
discussed in class and on your own experiences with public art.
Use specific examples of public art as you state the role of
public art.
4. Come to class Tuesday ready to discuss the article, other
information you have found, and your opinions about the Tilted
Arc.

Reflection requirements:
Think of your reflection as an essay on an examyou are
demonstrating your knowledge of the material covered in lecture,
readings and videos. The other component I would like you to focus on
is developing and communicating an opinionyour perspective on the
information you have been given.
Reflections must be at least 250 words long and double-spaced. You
should use complete sentences and check your spelling. It is
important that you state your opinions and present your information
in an orderly and concise wayno rambling. Proofread your work.
You may include images in your paper. I would suggest that you
include images if you refer to a piece of artwork or artist not
mentioned in the class lectures, readings or videos.
Demonstrate your knowledge by referring to specific pieces of art by
title, using quotation marks or italics for clarity. You should refer to an
artist by first and last name when you introduce them to your paper;
after the first instance you may refer to them by using only their last
name.
