1. COILED TUBING DOWNHOLE TOOLS

-

Also known as bottomhole assembly (BHA)

Basic BHA
I.
CT connector
II.
CT Check Valve
III.
Disconnect valve
IV.
Circulating valve
V.
Nozzle (any other auxiliary tools)

1.1. CT CONNECTOR

1.2. CHECK VALVE

Check valve acts as a safety valve preventing upwards flow of wellbore fluids or
gases into the CT string (except cementing and reverse circulation operation)

1.3. CT DISCONNECTING SUB

-

Provide BHA a separation points, so the coiled tubing and BHA located
abovethe separation sub may be recovered from well
Two types mechanical and hydraulic types

1.4. CIRCULATING SUB

-

Provides secondary way of circulating in the BHA located below the

circulating sub becomes obstructed
Contain burst disc used for safety purposes

2. CT FAILURE
-

Exceeding max tri-axial stress of material

Overpull, max 80% of material yield
Buckling
Large pressure differential inside and outside the pipe
Fatigue (bending stress)
External damage. Like wear, acid corrosion, etc
Plastic deformation (bending stress) imparts fatigue on the CT string

3. Coil running in hole

Image sent by sir
As CT is run in the hole, it will begin to spiral
This is a particular problem in horizontal wells

6. REEL DRIVE SYSTEM

The reel drive motor is used to maintain a constant pull, thereby keeping the tubing
tightly wrapped on the reel.
During injection of the tubing, slight backpressure is kept on the reel motor to allow
the injector to pull the tubing off the reel as well keep the tubing in tension between
injector and reel (back tension)
During pickup, the reel drive motor applies more torque to the drum than required
to pace the injector head pulling speed
