comprehension strategies to help us understand the books that we hear and read. During guided reading, we are working on reading good-fit books with accuracy and fluency. We are also working on thinking about our reading by asking: - Does it look right? - Does it sound right? - Does it make sense?
Writers Workshop -
We are adding and subtracting by
combining and separating sets of objects and recording the results. We are learning to find the number that is 1 more and 1 fewer than a number. We are learning to use strategies for addition and subtraction: - Using our fingers - Use manipulatives - Drawing a picture - Using a number line
Inquiry
We are continuing to build stamina so
that we can write with focus for longer periods of time. We are telling more detailed small moment stories by telling multiple events that happened across more than 1 page. We are working on including characters, settings, events, and feelings in our writing.
Word Work -
Math
How do animals and people in Alberta
survive during the winter? - We are learning about seasonal changes that take place in Alberta as winter begins. - We are learning about weather and how we can stay warm and safe when it is cold outside. - We are learning about animals that hibernate, migrate, or use special adaptations to help them survive in the cold.
Religion
We are using word families and our
knowledge of the alphabet to read and write simple CVC words. We are stretching out words by saying them slowly and listening for all of the sounds. We are learning sight words to help us read and write fluently: love mom dad come jump where away find here funny help run
We are learning that Advent is a time
of anticipation, hope, and renewal. We are learning about symbols: the Advent wreath, priests vestments, and the Jesse Tree. We are learning about Bible stories of Advent: the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity, and the story of the Three Wise Men. We are learning that Christmas is a time of joyful celebration!
Art -
We are using art materials to depict
familiar shapes and living things. We are exploring ways to use value (light and dark) in art.
