Westlawn Elementary School

Tearkana , Texas 75503

The vision of Westlawn Elementary is to develop students who understand the

importance of making a difference in their community and excel in all
academic areas.
Our mission is to provide a balanced curriculum while specializing in the
learning styles of students in grades 3-5 with an emphasis on leadership and
community action through the integration of Franklin Coveys The Leader
in Me program.

Westlawn thrives to immerse students in hands on learning both creative and authentic. Westlawn
thrives in teaching students to give back to the community as well. Some of the projects that our
students are involved include:
A Garden for Hope which vegetables are planted and cared for by our fifth grade students. When the
vegetables are full grown and picked they are distributed to the elderly and students who may lack
food at home.
Coats for Kids is lead by our third grade students. Students bring in coats they have outgrown and
they are cleaned by a local cleaner who volunteers their services. All coats are given to our students
at our neighboring Early Literacy Center.
Our fourth grade students lead our canned food drive. All canned goods collected are donated to our
citys Randy Sams Shelter.

Westlawn Elementary has a student population which consists of over 90% from low
socioeconomic backgrounds. There are approximately 333 students on campus each day.
126 Third graders
