The debates in the first quarter of the year are an imperative part of my portfolio because this
assignment best reflects my social growth.
When I was first assigned this project I was well aware of the difficulty of this project. However
after being disappointed in my grades last year, since the beginning of the year I have been much more
organized and systematic. This alteration to my system has led me to a higher GPA this quarter and much
less stress. My new, organized system and studious partner, Sebastien Kraft, helped me to conduct the
necessary research for the project so that come the time for the debates, I was adequately prepared.
If I had the opportunity to do this assignment again, I wouldve spent much more time
memorizing my speech. I shouldve taken my discomfort in front of audiences into account and realized
that even though I thought I had what I was going to say memorized, when I got up in front of the class I
couldnt remember all the information that I had prepared. The lack of fluency in my speech took away
from the effectiveness of my performance.
After completing this project I have learned to take into account my weaknesses, such as public
speaking, and alter the extent to which I prepare for the assignment accordingly. For future assignments
requiring public speaking, I must prepare more than usual so that when I perform, the stress of performing
in front of an audience does not detract from the fluency of the assignment.
