Name - Seynabou Diop Project Start Date – Feb 2022

Title of Project -Racial Profiling Seminar Project Completion Date - March 24, 2022

In approximately 40 words or more, describe who your project benefited and how. In
other words, what was the impact of your project?

Initially, when I started researching into the history behind racial profiling, I wanted my audience
to learn about those who lost their lives at the hands of police brutality. Now it's a combination
between that and spreading awareness. I want my project to make an everlasting impact over
those who attended my seminar and remind me that this iks a recurring issue that needs more
attention.

In at least 40 words explain how this was a stretch for you and forced you out of your
comfort zone?

I initally thought of doing a podcast when I started thinking about ways to advocate for this
issue, then I thought more into doing a seminar with a guest speaker. After thinking more about
it, I decided to do a seminar with a guest speaker because it would’ve been more impactful.

List and then describe 4-8 fundamental ideas/concepts/skills of your project, which you
learned/enhanced during your project. (See proposal- new/enhanced skills - see if you
learned what you anticipated.)

- Organization
- Planning
- Professionalism
- Public Speaking
List and describe 4-8 problems/obstacles/issues you encountered in your project, and
briefly describe how you solved each.

- Master Class: I initially wanted my seminar to become a master class for the Legal
Studies Academy, to give LSA students a chance to learn more about racial profiling, but
was denied because I didn’t have the correct materials going forward. I overcame this
obstacle by opening up my seminar and allwoing anyone to come.
- Guest Speaker: At first, I had trouble with finding a guest speaker but then was fortuante
enough to have Ms.V contact someone who was willing to help.
- Seminar Presentation: During the day of my project, I experienced some technical
difficulties but was able to get through it with the help of my consultant.
- Sign-Up: When I originally made my sign up genius I had very low interest in the amount
of people willing to attend, but after publicizing my seminar more, I received more
participants.

List all people who helped you on the project and briefly describe the help given.

- Mrs. V: Throughout this whole proccess, Mrs. V has helped me tremendously with
finding a guest speaker, securing a venue, and helping me out logistically with my overall
senior project.
- Ms. Besal: When I first thought about who I would chose to be my consultant, Ms. Besal
was the first person I thought of. Throughout my senior project she has helped me stay
motivated in finishing off my senior year on a good note.

How does your completed project compare to the picture you had in mind when you
started the project? Explain the reason behind any changes from your proposal.

My completed project ended up being slightly different than I originally planned with it initially
becoming a master class to it just being a seminar. I also intended to mainly focus on the statics
about racial profiling, but I went into another direction by focusing on some high profilied cases.

If given the opportunity, explain what you would have done differently now that you
speak from experience?

I overall loved how my project turned out, but if given thne opportunity to change one thing
about my project, I wish I would’ve never suggested it to become a master class so I could’ve
spent more time perfecting my seminar.

Beyond the project itself, what did you learn about yourself?

I learned that I’m very capable of succeeding and that I should be more confident when
confident!!!

Rate your project on a scale of 1-10. (1 meaning extremely dissatisfied, not really
impactful, and could have put much more effort/commitment into it and 10 meaning
massive time/effort/dedication, multiple layers, and extremely happy with the outcome -
truly proud of the entire thing - made a substantial impact)

Explain/justify why you gave the rating that you did.

I overall give my project a 7/10 because I overall think it could’ve been better if I pushed myself
a little more to advertise and promote my project. In my opinion, I think I could’ve put more
thought into it for it to make more of an impact.
