SENIOR PROJECT SELF-EVALUATION

Directions: Utilize this worksheet to help evaluate yourself and your project. Be as complete
and descriptive as possible. This self-evaluation should give the scoring team a clear picture of
what you accomplished in your project.

Name - Zachary Coltrain Project Start Date – Second Semester, 2020

Title of Project – There is No Plan Bee Project Completion Date – 05/01/2020

1. In 40 words or more describe who your project benefited and how. In other words, what was the
impact of your project?

My project benefitted my peers who attended by giving them an outlet and a way to connect in such a
trying time. My project was able to pair a fun experience with some knowledge about some of the
pollinators featured in the film all in real time.

2. In at least 40 words explain how the project challenged you. How was this a stretch for you?

My original project really forced me to work on organizational planning and finding ways to explain my
passion to others. When my gears were shifted to a virtual project I wanted to keep originality in mind
and find a way to bring us together doing something we love to do, and implementing educational aspects
into it.
3. List and then describe 5-8 fundamental ideas/concepts/skills of your project, which you
learned/enhanced during your project.

Hampton Roads Zoned Local Pollinator Species

I was able to incorporate information that specifically applies to the lives of people around me, and as
everyone who viewed my movie was local, it applied to them as well.

Preservation of Wildlife
A key topic that the movie and information cover is what happens to wildlife over time for better or for
worse.

Community Outreach/Communication
My project was an environment to bring people together and give everyone a chance to speak on the topic
or comment on the film while it was playing.

Climate Change
Climate change is a very general aspect of my project but is always mentioned and included when on this
topic.
National and International Statistics
I was able to bring information from near and far and was sure to include information that covered
wider ranges than just what was nearby.

4. List and describe 4-8 problems/obstacles/issues you encountered in your project, and briefly
describe how you solved each.

Connectivity Issues
Anticipated connectivity issues occurred in the beginning, after trial and error (and just reloading the
program) all issues seemed to be fixed.

Publicity Problem
Due to lack of face to face contact with many peers, I had a slightly difficult time advertising my movie
night which was solved by using social media.

Difficulty to Communicate During the Film

With the first program I used, it was difficult to communicate or time during the film without feeling
distracted, so I found a way to remove the distracting methods of communication and used a simple chat
log.
Coming up with Information
Having to find information that wasn’t too challenging to display during the film took lots of time picking
through my paper.

5. List materials used.

Laptop
My own research paper
“Netflix Party” program
6. List all people who helped you on the project and briefly describe the help given.

Alana Gill, Mya Smith, Haley Gammage, and Christina Roulley were my largest motivators and helped
me spread the word about my project.

7. How does your completed project compare to the picture you had in mind when you started the
project? Explain the reason behind any changes from your proposal.

Obviously, there were some rather large changes to my proposal. If I was able to have the project that
I planned I feel that it held true to my original intent. Unfortunately I was forced to shift to a more
hands-off approach, but I believe the underlying message stayed true to my proposal.

8. If given the opportunity, explain what you would have done differently now that you speak from
experience?

I would consider finding a way to be more interactive with my project, which could have boosted the
overall impact. However, I am very happy with the way my project came out.

9. Beyond the project itself, what did you learn about yourself?
I learned that people will listen when you are talking about something important. I also learned that the
research I have been doing is something that has a large impact to everyone around me and that some of
the things I write about in my paper and talk about during my project are essential.
10. What grade would you give yourself on the project? Justify the evaluation of your grade in at
least 25 words.
I would give myself an A for this project, as I believe I served all purposes I intended to serve, and I did
so with an audience who came out with a positive experience.

Grade: 94 (A)

Justification: My projected provided people with useful information is a medium that expressed
creativity and pulled off a very fun and successful movie night, even though I feel that more work
could have created a better outcome I am very happy with what I have.
