Lesson plan for Reading

Benchmark/Core Standards:
4.RF.4a Read on-level text with purpose and understanding.
CCRA.R.6 Assess how point of view or purpose shapes the content and style of a
text.
4.W.1b Provide reasons that are supported by facts and details.
CCRA.W.9 Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis,
reflection, and research.
4.L.2d Spell grade-appropriate words correctly, consulting references as needed.
Objective for this lesson: Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing
Students will be able to understand how change alters perspectives.
Anticipatory Set/ Direct Instruction:
- Silent reading. Group 3 switches books. (15 minutes)
- Meet with astronaut reading group. Finish book. During this meeting students
will analyze what they have read, identify text features and the purpose they
serve for the reader.
- Have students finish reading chapter 7 in Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing silently
and complete focus question seven.
Guided Practice/ Independent Practice
- Display must do and can do list for students. Must Dos includes students
silently reading chapter 7 and answering the chapter focus question. Focus
question: When Peter says; I hate him! after learning Fudge has destroyed
his poster, his mother replies; You dont hate him, you just think you do.
Youre angry, How does Peters attitude towards his Mothers advice change?
How does this help him with Sheila and Jimmy?
Next students are to check previous focus questions (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) to
see if they need to submit a new answer.
- After students have completed the Must Dos they can move on to the Can
Do list includes daily 5 activities: Spelling City, silent reading, Into the book,
buddy reading, and tumble books.

Meet with robot group to complete guided reading activity (Inferences)

Closure
- Check in with students about their focus question responses.
- Review the homework. Read for 15 minutes, Get log signed.
