Weekly Journal: Crystal Dozier-Fairchild

For week of November 2, 2015
Week 10

This week went well. I learned a lot and met with members from the Child Youth
Enforcement Division. Specially, I spoke with the head of the Department of Community Child
Development and Policing. I asked multiple questions and gained insight on the importance of
their roles. The agency partners with the city of Wilmington by providing intervention services to
juvenile offenders. I was a little confused because I was under the assumption that Duffys Hope
mission was to provide prevention services to at risk youth. I expressed my concerns and it was
explained to me that intervention and prevention was kept separate.
We went to Del Castle and William Penn High School to meet with youth participants to
discuss grades, attendance, and barriers. My encounters were very enlightening, it was great
listen to their needs and responses. Next week, I am looking forward to facilitating the peer
group meeting.
A strength this week was my ability to remain focused and on task. I was able to provide
data analysis before deadline.
A weakness would be my energy level. I have been so exhausted lately. I am not sure if it
has to do with daylight savings time, but this week was rough. I plan to go to bed earlier this
week.

A self-improvement step that I worked on this week is getting out of my comfort zone. I
am working on the ability to step out of my comfort zone while still retaining a level of
professionalism
