SPECIFIC OUTCOMES
A35 demonstrate ways to receive, retain and send an object, using a variety of body parts and implements; and,
perform manipulative skills individually and with others while using a variety of pathways
CROSS CURRICULAR OUTCOMES / PROCESS OUTCOMES
INTRODUCTION / WARM UP
Turtle Tag:
2 5 students are it and are given the evil red balls.
If a student is tagged, they must lie down on their back and stick both hands and both feet straight up in the air
(they are a turtle flipped on its shell).
To be saved, a turtle must be gently pushed onto its side so that the student can get up and rejoin the game.
Change evil red ball holders every few minutes to change the game dynamic.
[ 5-10 mins]
LEARNING ACTIVITIES / TEACHING STRATEGIES
Return students to the centre circle after warm-up, (gather pylons, balls during warm-up)
With a student volunteer, demonstrate good throwing form (Have a student volunteer opposite you
catch the ball as you demonstrate, then ask them to demonstrate back)
Explain the game:
you will be divided into four teams. Two teams will throwers who try to hit the pylons, one team will be
protectors who try to stop the balls from hitting the pylons, and one team will be the retrievers, who give
the balls back to the throwers.
The throwers will stand along the long walls, one team on each wall and try to throw the dodgeballs at
the pylons (that we place when teams are moving into position Have a student helper line up pylons
at discretion)
The Protectors will try to stop the throwers from hitting the pylons with the dodgeballs WITHOUT
kicking them. Students may catch the balls or block them with their hands, body or gently with their feet.
If a protector catches or stops a ball, they should roll it to the short walls of the gymnasium, towards the
retrievers.

The retrievers will gather balls on the short walls without interfering with the game if possible. After
they gather the balls they will pass them gently to the throwing teams. (students should be encouraged
to pass balls to everyone to encourage teamplay)
Divide students into teams by counting to four. Get every team individually to point where they are
going before saying go
Keep score for one of the throwing teams, then tell them their score after
After three minutes, tell students that you will be using a phone timer. Teams will rotate. (Use FREEZE
to get everyone to stop, then explain which groups are going where When I say go. After everyone
knows where they are going, ask everyone to point to where they are going) The protectors will be
retrievers, one of the teams of throwers will be protectors, the retrievers will be throwers, and one of the
teams of throwers will remain throwers. After four rounds everyone will have been throwers twice,
practicing good throwing form
[ 25-30 mins]

CLOSURE / COOL DOWN

Freeze everyone one last time, and ask them to gather one ball each and return it before taking a seat.
Make sure all balls are in, and have as many people as possible contribute to clean up.
return to the circle. Ask one person from each team to tell their team's score and announce the winner.
Grab two volunteers (different from the first) to demonstrate their good throwing form, then line up to
for dismissal.
[ 5-10 mins]
