Rhino Weekly Newsletter to Parents

Week 6,
Friday 9th October, 2015

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a wet week it has been in Year 4! We have been practicing our times tables and
ways of multiplying bigger numbers. It is incredibly important that our children
practice their times tables regularly and know them off by heart, as there are so many
areas of maths that use multiplication. We have finished writing our information
reports on rhinos. The children worked extremely hard and their writing is great!
We are super excited to see rhinos at our trip to the zoo next Tuesday!
Please make sure your child is completing the required homework and reading every
night. This is vital for their continued improvement at school. Please also encourage
them to take responsibility for their belongings as I have children telling me they have
already lost parts of their homework pack.

PE

Your child has PE on Tuesday every week.

Your child should waer a PE kit in school on this day

Swimming

Swimming is on Wednesday mornings. Please make sure

your child has a swimming kit at school on Wednesday,
including goggles, a towel and appropriate swim wear.

Please feel free to speak to me about anything; I am available every morning and
afternoon to talk about any concerns or queries you may have.
Kind regards,

Erin Mealey

Homework
Homework will be handed out every Friday and needs to be returned by
Wednesday morning.

Literacy

Please make sure you are reading with your child for at least 15 minutes
every night.
Practice the 7 x tables. Or why not challenge yourself and learn the 13x
times tables? You can find many times table games here:
http://resources.woodlandsjunior.kent.sch.uk/maths/timestable/interactive.htm . All students must
know their 1-12x times tables by the end of Year 4.
We have been practicing our multiplication this week. Use a place value
chart or the grid method to answer these questions.

Please write a short story about you going on safari in Africa. What did
you see, what did you hear and what did you feel? Was there anything
scary? What was the most exciting part of your day trip?
Can you use similes or metaphors to describe parts of your experience?
