News:
Happy New Year!! I hope
you all had a wonderful
holiday break and a very
happy new year! We are
getting the ball rolling as
we are now moving into
3rd quarter.
If you are interested in
participating in the Science
Fair, please go to the MES
website to fill out a registration form! There will
be a lot of fun events and
activities at this years
Science Fair on March 24th
from 6-8pm.
Also, the schools talent
show, Morrisvilles Got
Talent will take place
during Night of the Arts.
Tracks 1 and 3 will perform on February 11th at
6:15pm. Be on the look-out
for more information on
the MES website!
Be on the lookout for our
next field trip form and
permission slip. We will be
having parents send in
permission slips and pay
for our last 2 field trips
of the year together.

3rd Qt: Weeks 1 & 2

Week 1:
Writing: We will begin a new poetry writing unit. We will be
learning about lots of different types of poems and try our hand
at writing some. This week, we will write couplets and quatrains.
Reading: This week, we will focus on fiction texts. We will be describing how a character responds to major events and challenges
in a text.
Phonics/Spelling: This weeks spelling focus is words with the suffix
er or -est. This includes words ending in y that get changed to
ier or iest.
Math: This week, we will begin a unit on shapes. We will learn
attributes of 2-D shapes, such as parallel and perpendicular lines.
S.S.: We will start our unit on economics, focusing on these key
terms: producer, consumer, goods, services, wants & needs,
supply & demand, saving, earning, borrowing, and spending.

Week 2:
Writing: We will continue our poetry unit, focusing this week on
writing cinquains and haikus.
Reading: We will continue to look at fiction texts, analyzing how
characters respond and react to different problems and events.
Phonics/Spelling: This weeks spelling focus is on the vowel teams
ee and ea. We will learn that the first vowel does the talking
whild the second vowel is on the lookout.
Math: We will continue our unit on shapes, reviewing 2-D shape
attributes and looking at different irregular shapes.
Social Studies: We will continue our economics unit. This week we
will focus more on wants/needs and supply/demand.
