Prediction of Shrinkage Factor (1-Shr) and Gas Solubility GOR2

of Oil Leaving the Separator (from KATZ data)

Example:
Separator pressure: 800 psi
Stock tank oil specific gravity at 60oF: 0.786
From chart:
Shrinkage factor at 60oF (by drawing lines 1 , 2 and 3 ):
1-Shr = 0.86
Gas still in solution in the oil leaving the separator (by drawing
3
lines 1 , 2 and 4 ); GOR2 = 350 ft /bbl

Remark:
A more accurate value of GOR2 is obtained when shrinkage
factor (1-Shr) is known by measurement. Read this value
by using lines 5 and 6 directly. For example, if shrinkage
factor at 60oF measured is 1-Shr = 0.844, gas in solution in
the separator oil is GOR2 = 400 ft3/bbl.
