Kindergarten Expectations:

By the end of the Kindergarten year, all kindergarten


students should be able to master the following skills:
-Name all upper and lower case letters in random order.
-Segment words into phonemes (cat = /c/ /a/ /t/).
-Blend phonemes into words ( /p/ /l/ /a/ /y/ = play).
-Identify letter/sound relationships (b = /b/).
-Identify beginning and ending sounds.
-Understand the meaning of author, illustrator, main idea,
setting, characters, sequence, retelling, and predicting.
-Recognize sight words (80% or 40/50).Count to 100 by 1s and 10s.
-Read, write, order, and compare numbers to 20.
-Use basic addition and subtraction facts up to 10.
-Identify shapes (circle, oval, rectangle, square, triangle).
-Describe objects in position (above, below, beside, in
front of, behind, next to).
-Identify colors.
-Recite Days of the Week and Months of the Year.
-Compare weather (four seasons, types of weather)
