Intro/Review: Students will look at three different pictures of apartheid. Students will be asked what they think, and notice. We w
then go over the pictures as a class.

Students will examine a timeline of events in South Africa from 1900-today. Students will respond to the quest
What evidence is there that apartheid existed in South Africa before 1948?
Students will read the National Partys platform and discuss what the party believed

Students will read a primary source that shows the different laws that existed during apartheid. Students will
record five of the laws in their own words in their notes.

Students will watch a video on the life of Nelson Mandela. Students will respond in their notes to the question How did Nelso
Mandela help bring an end to apartheid?

Students will read an article that explains the state of South Africa since Apartheid. Students will create a Venn
diagram that shows their understanding of the similarities and differences between South Africa during aparth
and South Africa today.
Assessment

Assignment: Make an outline for your paragraph about whether South Africa has changed or remained the same since apartheid
Topic sentence needs to be written. The rest can be just ideas.
