Subject: State Rep. Victoria Steele Emerges as Strongest
Challenger to Incumbent Martha McSally in Arizonas Second
Congressional District
Date: January 21, 2016
A new Public Policy Polling survey finds that Arizona State Rep. Victoria Steele is within
single digits of incumbent Congresswoman Martha McSally in a hypothetical general
election matchup, compared to a double digit deficit for fellow Democrat Matt Heinz.
Steele, who has represented Arizonas 9th District in the State House of Representatives
since 2012, trails the first-term Republican congresswoman 39/48, while Heinz is behind
13 points (35/48). McSallys failure to clear the 50% threshold is a telltale sign that
Novembers general election will be tight once again, after the 2014 race ended with
McSally winning by just 167 votes.
