STEM Civics and Economics 2014

Community Service Project #1

At Central Cabarrus, we incorporate objectives from the Civics and Economics NC Standard Course of Study
by allowing students to identify a need in the community and develop a solution that can make a difference each
semester.
For this years community service project, our class will give back to the community of Central Cabarrus
directly and complete a digital history project on Central Cabarrus High School. We will build a digital archive
of primary sources that current students and staff, alumni, and the community will be able to access from
Central Cabarrus High Schools website.
Built in 1966 with funding from the Federal Government to compete in the space race, many community
members and alumni have expressed how they would appreciate the capability to reminisce on their years and
memories at Central Cabarrus High School by easily accessing previous yearbooks, newspaper articles of
Centrals landmark moments, and the role of Central in the Concord community from its beginning to present
day. With the assistance of the S.T.E.M. program of Central Cabarrus High School, the technological facilitator,
the media specialist, and alumni, the projected timeline for this STEM project is approximately two years.
This project will consist of work inside and outside of class. Please be mindful of the due dates!!
Roles to be fulfilled:
1. Videographers (2 groups: 6 to 8 members total) - To conduct oral histories (interviews) of alumni on
how school was here in the past; Make reference to the use of the planetarium.

members total.
In order to collect and scan our data, we will be using the Tiny Scan app. This app will be coming down (if it
hasnt already) from your iPad cloud. If you choose the groups that need to scan documents, you will receive a
tutorial on this app.
