BASIC TORQUE / TENSION EQUATION

K Factor [Nut factor]

T = KDF
or

F =T/(KD)
Where:
T = Applied Torque [inch-pounds]
D = Nominal Diameter of Screw
F = Tensile Load in Fastener
The Service maunal specifies the torques
relative to DRY fasteners. For DRY
uncoated [black oxide] fasteners use K ~
= .017
For Torque adjustments due to lubrication...
D and F will remain unchanged.
(Same diameter screw, Same tensile load)

TLube = TOEM X

Example:
T
= 130 Ft-lbs (dry)
OEM
Using Graphite....
T
= 130 (.09/.17)
Lube
= 53 Ft-lbs

(Graphite and oil)
