DESIGN OF TIIACRO SYNTHETIC FIBER REINFORCED CONCRETE

SLABS

The use of fiber reinforced concrete for flooring has grown a lot lately, due to
their ease of use in the onstruction prooess, as well as abil'rty to absorb
loads, redistributing fore and therefore gaining service life.

The macro fibers maybe added directly to the concrete mixing system during,
or after, the batching of the other ingredients and mixed at the time and speed
reoommended by the mixer manufacturer (usually four to five minutes). lts
release takes place direcilly over the area mnveniently prepared in the same
way as is normally done, casting the concrete, without the need for any
reinforcement on the inside of the plate, using only the load transfer bars
between the plates and reinforcements at stress concentration points.

The flber reinforced concrete is mainly used with performance concrete

applicatlons such as industrial floors, warehouse floors, commercial floors.
The steel reinforcement reduction or replacement is the objective.

The addition of macro fibers to concrete is intended to inhibit the opening of

cracks and their propagation. This can, in principle, lead to the conclusion that
its purpose is simply to combat the cracking of the concrete materlal, which is
nonetheless true. Ho\,yever, when faced with contlolling cracking, the material
exhibits the ability to deform when absorbing a !oad, ctraracteristic of this
malleable material.

Thus, its application is possible in some structural elementrs that present the
possibility of force redistribution, without compromising its state of service.
This possibility appears generally when the structural elements are interfaced
with an elastic medium, i.e.: flooring, surfa@s, slabs, lining of tunnels, lining
of embankments, etc.

The calculation process features partiorlarities of the point of view in terms of

the concept of plasticity that is partially applied to concrete. Therefore we
cannot apply the conept of calculating concrete to fiber reinforced concrete.

The sizing of concrete floorc, surfiaces and slabs is performed by calculation

procedures that consider the actions ac'ting on plates resting on an elastic
foundation, taking into acoount the existing links with adjaoent plates.

The works of Losberg and ileyerhof and are precuniom to the model
developed, in light of the theory of plastic hinges, for sizing of fiber reinforced
concrete plates on an elastic foundation, the main obiective of this work.
