DEFINITIONS
As defined according to
2012 IECC:
BUILDING
Any structure used or intended
for supporting or sheltering
any use or occupancy,
including any mechanical
systems, service water heating
systems and electric power
and lighting systems located
on the building site and
supporting the building.
BUILDING THERMAL
ENVELOPE
The basement walls, exterior
walls, floor, roof, and any
other building elements that
enclose conditioned space or
provide a boundary between
conditioned space and exempt
or unconditioned space.

R402.4 Air leakage (Mandatory)


The building thermal envelope shall be constructed to
limit air leakage in accordance with the requirements of
Sections R402.4.1 through R402.4.4.
