Results
As shown on the picture, Vascular bundles are present, comprising of xylem and
phloem. Aside from the vascular bundles, presence of Parenchyma and Collenchyma
tissues are found. Collenchyma cells are found toward the edge of the celery stalk,
grouped near the border of the petiole having a white-glistening, unevenlythickened cell wall. Parenchyma cells appeared to be the remaining cells, mostly
transparent, live cells which comprises most of the tissue of the petiole. Nucleus
and mitochondria are hardly observed under the microscope as light cant pass right
through and as it might be covered with other organelles and no such movement of
chloroplast (cyclosis) was observed along the perimeter of the cell.
Discussion
Celery is a petiole, which is the part of the leaf that connects the blade to the stem.
In the celery cross section. First the epidermis is clear which secretes cutin to
prevent water loss. Secondly, visible vascular bundles are found, which composes
of xylem and phloem. Xylem provides support and transportation of water and
minerals up to the leaves while phloem transports food and other nutrients from the
leaves to the rest of the plant.
Besides the vascular bundles, celery contains collenchyma tissue, providing
support, made up of elongated living cells filled with water, and the pressure of the
water against the cell walls. An example of collenchyma cells are the `strings' found
in celery stalks, which appears to be unevenly thickened cell walls when viewed
under the microscope. Parenchyma tissues are also visible, which are large and only

have thin primary cell wall. This tissues mostly involved in storage. In plant cells,
chloroplast, small green pigments may be moving around the perimeter of the cell
known as cyclosis. This movement known as assist in the transport, nutrients,
metabolites, genetic information, and other materials to all parts of the cell. Not
only chloroplast contains their own DNA but also mitochondria, which are extremely
small bodies containing many enzymes on their membranes which produces ATP as
an important factor in cellular respiration.
