What is Guardian Ad Litem

(GAL)
Simply put, it is a person the court appoints to investigate
the solutions that would be in the best interests of the
childinvolved in abuse or neglect cases.
GAL mission statement: The mission of the Guardian Ad
Litem Program (GAL) is to speak for the best interests of
abused and neglected children in the courts. Through
quality volunteer representation for children in the child
welfare system, we strive to provide each child a safe,
permanent, nurturing home. We are for the Child.

What do you do?

We visit each child (at home, school,
etc.) once a month and make calls
every two weeks.
Contact caretakers
We work in conjunction with the
social workers in order to best
advocate for the children.

DID YOU KNOW?

Social work research has shown that
older youth and young adults who
have experienced extended time in
foster care are at increased risk of
negative consequences once they
leave care, such as dropping out of
school, unplanned parenthood,
homelessness, criminal activity,
depression and suicide.

THEREFORE
The LINKS Program was designed to
combat this statistic.
We collaborate with DSS to show
support to the children.
Learn about what healthy
relationships look like, safe sex, and
resources for the individuals that
already have children.

DID YOU KNOW?
