Rising prices/inflation

• Introduction
• The problem of inflation in Pakistan

“Money is power, freedom, a cushion, the root of all evil, the sum of blessings.”
(Carl Sandburg)
The prices of necessities of life are rising constantly. They are posing a serious problem for
everybody in the country. The problem of rising prices has become a universal problem. This
problem assumes an acute term in developing countries like Pakistan. The majority of people in
our country belong to the low-income group. Usually, they have very eager sources of income.
Very often the income of people is fixed. Therefore, they are hard hit by the high prices of essential
goods which register a rise every week and every month. The result is that the standard of living
of poor people is dwindling day by day.

Inflation has an adverse effect on different sections of society. Most of the people have not
sufficient means to buy the necessities of life. They are compelled to use unfair means to have
them. In this way, society is troubled by pick-pockets, thieves and robbers etc. Those government
servants who cannot make both ends meet become corrupt. They abuse their powers and accept
the bribe. In this way, they promote injustice and cruelty in the national life.
Rising prices also affect national life in the economic field. The businessmen think of adulteration
black marketing and other methods to maximize their profits. Since the prices of goods are beyond
the reach of common man, the standard of living goes on falling gradually.

World’s richest investor Warren Buffet says,

“If you buy things you don’t need, soon you will have to sell things you need.”

There are many factors which cause a rise in prices.

First, the most important of these is the increase in population. The population of a country is
increasing at a rapid rate. But the economic resources do not increase at the same rate. It results in
inflation.
Second, if the demand is higher than the supply, the goods will be naturally sold at higher prices.
Sometimes the government imposes higher taxes on certain commodities so that their prices go
up. The wrong policies of government often lead to hoarding, smuggling and black marketing of
the essential goods.
Third, if a businessman has a monopoly in the production and sale of a certain commodity, he can
raise its price as and when he desires. In developing countries like Pakistan, developmental
activities usually cause inflation. The funds and the loans that are acquired from foreign countries
are invested in different projects. They increase the circulation of money in the country and cause
inflation.

“The safe way to double your money is to fold it over once and put it in your pocket.”
(Frank Hubbard)

Our first duty should be to check the birth rate. We should make vigorous propaganda in favour
of family planning. Second, the government should not impose so many taxes, levies, duties or
surcharges on those commodities which are used by the common man and which are considered
necessary for human life.

The government should take adequate measures to control this social evil.

I don’t mind going back to daylight saving time. With inflation, the hour will be the only
thing I’ve saved all year. (Victor Borge)
Curbing child abuse

• What is child abuse?

• Why does child abuse occur?

• What actions can you take to prevent child abuse and neglect?

• What is the most important action I can take to help prevent child abuse and neglect?

“The Change starts within each one of us. And ends only when all children
are free to be children.” Craig Kielburger

Sometimes it is difficult to understand exactly what child abuse and neglect are. Child abuse is
any mistreatment of a child (someone under 18) by a parent or caregiver that results in harm or
injury. Child abuse includes:

• Physical abuse: an injury to a child that is not an accident

• Physical neglect: neglects or refuses to provide the child food, clothing, medical
care, shelter or supervision
• Sexual abuse: any sexual contact or exploitation of a child.

• Emotional abuse and neglect: an abusive parent may scare a child by threatening to
leave him or her, or by being severely critical

Child abuse can be a one-time occurrence but more often it is a pattern of behavior involving
regular physical attacks or acts of deprivation or molestation. Frequently, the longer child abuse
goes on, the more serious the consequences.

Child abuse can be of a physical, emotional, neglectful or sexual nature. Abuse and neglect can
occur within families or in other settings where children are provided care or services, including
schools, residential facilities, day care centres, and recreational or sporting programs.

There are many different underlying causes of child abuse, ranging from individual factors such
as low self-esteem or isolation to societal factors such as community violence or the stresses of
poverty.
Child abuse cuts across all boundaries of economic level, race, ethnic heritage, and religious
faith. Unfortunately, child abuse occurs in all segments of our society, but the risk factors are
greater in families where parents:

• Seem to be having economic, housing or personal problems;

• Are isolated from their family or community;
• Have difficulty controlling anger or stress;
• Are dealing with physical or mental health issues;
• Abuse alcohol or drugs;

Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, community member or teacher, you can do something to
protect the children in our families, neighbourhoods and schools from abuse and neglect.

Parents:

Parents can do something every day to positively support their children. Every single action you
take can have enormous results when it comes to the safety and happiness of your children.

• Plan a family fun night with your children.

• Take notice of adults or older children who take an unusual interest in your child.
• Ask your children about their day, and be sure to listen to what they have to say.
• Attend events at your child’s school and get involved with their education.
• When you get stressed, don’t take it out on your children.

Teachers/Educators:

“The child is meant to Learn, not to Earn.”

If you are a teacher, child care provider or any kind of educator, keep in mind that you are key in
helping to prevent abuse and neglect. There are many simple ways you can help protect the
safety of your students:

• Volunteer your expertise at local abuse prevention and parenting programs.

• Educate your co-workers and peers about abuse and neglect.
• If you suspect abuse or neglect, report it immediately to Child Protective Services.
• Tell the children in your school how important and valuable they are on a regular
basis.
• Identify creative ways parents can be involved with their children’s education.

“Child labour is a devastation; they should concentrate on Education.”

Community Members:

We can all do something to keep the children in our community safe and happy. Reach out to
your neighbours, co-workers and members of your faith community every day with actions that
can make a big difference:

• Mentor a child or a parent through local volunteer programs.

• Plan parenting or child abuse education programs at your workplace, church or other
organizations.
• Praise a child when they have tried hard at something or used good manners.
• Donate your time or money to local child abuse prevention organizations.

The most important ONE action you can take for a child who is being mistreated is to REPORT
abuse if you suspect it. Keep in mind that just one phone call could save a child’s life.

If a child is in danger, CALL THE POLICE.

To report suspected abuse, CALL YOUR LOCAL CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES.

IMPORTANCE OF MUSLIM UNITY

The word "unity" is derived from the word "unit" which means "one”. Unity is one of the three
basics principles which is given by Quaid-e-Azam. This shows the importance of unity. It has been
very rightly said that,
“United we stand, and divided we fall.”
Simply, we can call a nation united when all the people of that particular nation have same beliefs,
ideas, and thoughts and they work together with peace and harmony. We all know that unity is
strength; it is one of the essential components of a strong nation. Great things can be achieved if
there is unity among the people.
Similarly, the Muslims need unity. It is very important for Muslims to have unity among them.
This can lift them higher. It can make them progress.
According to our Prophet (S.A.W),
“All the Muslims are brothers among themselves.”

Soul.
Muslims need to work together with loyalty, patriotism, and spirit of hard work so that they can
make their economy strong. If Muslims trade among each other and work for welfare, this can help
in building strong economy.
Apart from this, unity can save the Muslims from enemy attacks. A single person can be easily
distracted or attacked. But a large group of people are hard to overcome. In the same way, Muslims
must stay together with love and sympathy, they should avoid minor disputes and quarrels so that
they’ll be strong and no other nation would be able to attack or overcome them.
In past, Muslims were superior and prosperous due to unity and understanding. But now they have
split apart due to which other nations are overtaking them.
Unity has much significance and if Muslims unite again, work together, and ignore minor
disagreements, they can regain their position.

Our national poet, Allama Iqbal stressed the importance of Muslim unity through his Urdu and
Persian poetry. His important message for the Muslims of world is the message of unity. The
following verses by him have the message for us:
