I found a brief journal that I kept my first few months

as your pastor. That was June 1987. Just for the record a
journal is not a diary. In my mind, keeping a diary is a girl
thing. So lets be clear. It was a journal. Not a diary. Here
is the first week.
Monday 6-22-87 I met with about forty deacons
tonight for prayer. No business matters. No reports. No
policies. Just prayer. Refreshing! Jim Sutherland, Jeff
Phelps, Jim Ellis, Pressley brothers, Gene McDonald, Dick
Byers, Earl Tillery, Don Jones, Ray Gary were some of
those present.

Tuesday 6-23-87 Met with the ladies tonight. Betty

Reeves, Nell Gary, Omie Lowery, Nan McDonald plus
several others. We want to pray for our new pastor.
There was no Bible study. No secret agenda. Not even
cake or coffee. We just prayed together. Nice. Betty did
say You met the men last night. Tonight you met the real
workers of the church.

Dates to Remember

Wednesday 6-24-87 Choir asked me to come to

rehearsal. They wanted to pray for me. I was humbled
and impressed.

March 6th, 4 - 6 PM at Rockin Jump, 1 hour jump,

1 hour class, cost is $10

Thursday 6-25-87 Phil Childress and Tim Bristow

(staff ministers) saw my office light on. Stopped by to pray
for me.

March 18-19th, Vineyard Christian retreat/camp for boys

& dads in Ariton, AL. $20/person covers tent camping,
activity fees, and two meals, $1 to race Pinewood Car in
state race

Mitchell took me to breakfast so they could pray for my
family.
You probably notice the obvious pattern. From early
on our church has been a praying church. Prayer may not
change the one you are praying for, but it always changes
you. Lets keep praying together.
I sometimes call our Sunday School classes by another
name. The old name is fine, but I like Life Groups better.
Either way the purpose is the same: transforming lives.
Care for one another Reach out to others. And be sure
to pray for those in your Sunday Life Group each week.
A word about finances. Though our total giving has
declined in five of the last seven years, we are still in the
strongest financial shape ever. We have no debt and have
over 100K saved in an emergency repair fund. God has
blessed and you have been generous. Like many of you I
am a tither. I give God the first 10% of my income. When
I tithe a math miracle occurs in my heart. God subtracts
greed and deposits faith. We have some big expenses
coming up: parking lot resurfacing, roof repairs, and
highway sign. Total cost could be 300K. Pray with us as
we make the best decisions.
Ill be away Sunday. Pray for Gene Kim as he preaches.

cartridges) and used cell phones (no accessories). Place

WOMENS MINISTRY
Living Free by Beth Moore

New Bible Study for Ladies

begins March 13 at 5 PM in room 129.
Facilitated by Melinda Makowsky and
Donna Clements. With Living Free, participants can learn
how to develop a Godward focus in life, while beginning to
incorporate the key benefits in their lives through practices
of prayer and Bible study. Cost is $14 for your Bible study
book and prayer journal. Additional recommended
supplies include colored pencils and fine point Sharpie
