Clinical Skill (2 February 2012)
On the second of February me and my group went to Siloam Kebun Jeruk
Hospital, we were assigned to go to the Emergency room, and were guided by a local
doctor named dr Jansen Tjoe whos on his duty in the emergency room. The
Emergency room treat patient specialising in acute care of patients who
present without prior appointment, either by their own means or by
ambulance, in many case Emergency room treat patient who
needed immediate help or treatment that is why this division is very
important and that is why it was designed to be at the front most of the
hospital for easier access.
An important process called the Triage Process is a process that were done to
divide the severity level of a patient, there are four line each with different color and
purposes black, red, yellow and green. These color represents the severity level of the
patients. Black line represents a way or lane for death patient, red line represents a
way or lane for patient that suffers life threatening illness/ pain/ disease and needed to
be treated immediately, yellow line represents a way or lane for a patient that needs to
be threated immediately but not life threatening, and green line is a way or lane for a
patient that has non-emergency cases. They have some kind of an office/ front desk
with nurses/ doctors/ officers in it that decide the severity level of patient.
Some of the patient in the emergency room cant feed normally through mouth
and needed to be fed through a tube that were inserted on their nose, this process were
called Nasogastric intubation, using a tube called nasogastric tube, but before it was
inserted, is must first be lubricate with a gel that contain anesthetic in it. When it is
inserted we must wait till they cough and tell them so swallow and when the patient is
unconscious we need to insert respiratory assistive tools, but we must be careful not to
insert this nasogastric tube wrongly into the respiratory tract.
Without the emergency, a hospital would not be able to handle patients with
emergency cases who needed an immediate treatment that will cause serious problems
like increasing number of death patient and will resulted the ward to be full because
every patient needed to be treated and stay in the ward resulting many patient cant be
handle because that.
