SA1415-037: Resolution Establishing a Sexual Assault Task Force for Improving Campus
Awareness and Safety

WHEREAS; Sexual assault/violence is an issue of concern on all college campuses, including
UW-L, and one of the major areas of concern amongst students; and
WHEREAS; there has not been significant attention brought to this issue since last semesters
sexual assault incident; and
WHEREAS; UW-Ls Violence Prevention Specialist, Ingrid Peterson and UW-Ls Director of
Affirmative Action, Nizam Arain both feel that this task force can help further the
communication about this issue between students and administration; and
WHEREAS; Men Against Gendered Violence (MAGV) is strongly in support of this task force
and feels that it will be effective in unifying individuals from organizations seeking to improve
safety, awareness and further educate students on this issue.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED; the Student Senate supports the establishment of this task
force, focused on finding new pathways to prevent sexual violence, effectively raise awareness
about this issue on campus and advocate to both college men and women about being a part of
the conversation.
THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED; this task forces membership will consist of any
individuals interested in helping prevent sexual violence, at least 1 (one) member of any
recognized organization if they are so interested, at least 1 (one) member of Student Senate, and
at least 1 (one) member of RHAC;
THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED; this task force will develop a comprehensive
report, detaining the ways in which this goal of better safety and awareness can be accomplished,
and will share this report with the appropriate members of UW-L administration as a
recommendation for improvement.
