Lesson Plan Outline for Flipped Classroom

Subject: Gemara Makos 7a-7b

Grade: 8 boys
Link to video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oI6hUdRRvPk
The video sent to students consists of an introduction to the 2nd perek of Maseches Makos that details
the basic halachic distinction between one who needs to go to exile for killing accidentally and one who
is exempt.
The video also has two extra Did you know? sections at the end for students who want to know more.
After watching the video at night, students are equipped to fill in a quick multiple choice pretest to see
if they absorbed the basic concepts outlined in the video.
Students who successfully pass the pretest can then go on to a more advanced version of the handout,
which can then be worked on in a group. The second handout is to be translated by students. Any words
that are hard can be looked up in the back of their Gemara (which contains translations).
The advantage of the pretest is that the teacher can focus his attention on the students who need the
extra help with the concepts discussed in the video, while the more advanced students can work
independently as a group.
