This reflection paper summarizes a BLF activity where students collected recyclable materials from homes in a nearby slum area. The students went door-to-door collecting recyclables, which they then sold to fund a community program. The author observed that the families were participative and excited to contribute to the clean-up drive, knowing they would benefit from the program. Many children also followed and assisted the students, appearing happy despite living in poverty. The student found the activity to be a way to interact with and offer help to the community.

Last February 5, we conducted our BLF activity outside San Beda
College-Alabang, we went to a slum area near Daang Hari. We were divided into 2 groups, our group was accompanied by a resident of that community and then we were assigned in a specific block wherein we go door to door, to ask each family to collect all those recyclable materials for us to collect which will be sold to a junk shop and in return we use that money to start a program which the specified community may benefit. There are a lot of things that I noticed, that the families we had encountered are participative and cooperative, It amazed me because they were excited to be a part of this clean up drive, knowing that at the end of this activity, they were the ones who will benefit from this. Also, a lot of children followed us all throughout the activity; it was entertaining because theyre jolly and excited despite of the idea that they are challenged everyday due to poverty. For me, this activity is more than just a cleanup drive; it can be a way of interacting with other people, reaching out to them, offering them a hand. A way of giving back to others.
