Discussion to move forward with using ALICE as our active threat response.

Arcadia is moving forward with it, GET is looking at it.

Point of ALICE is to get outour lockdown procedures are what experts do not
want us to do. We lockdown in a room, cover windows, do not communicate, and

hide on the floor.

Current plan: lock down. Lock door, turn off lights, and wait for all clear.
Avg. law enforcement response time 18 minutes
% of wounded and killed is much higher in rooms that stayed down vs. rooms that

barricaded and jumped out windows

ALICE does NOT have set protocol; you can use ANY of the responses in any

order from the acronym to get out.

Lockdown is not bad, it can be used if needed
o Make sure to lockdown and barricade
Make sure that if you lockdown, you do not just lockdown.
o Look for different escapes, use what you can
Throw whatever you have at the person
ALICE asks you to do SOMETHING, dont just sit there
Disrupt the shooters plan in any way possible
ALICE is different in that it is specific in telling the threat and the location of the
threat.
Areas not in the immediate area need to flee
Each individual person decides what to do, both staff and children
KEY: students have to know the building identification marks.
o We will not say that the threat is near so and sos room

Next steps
o School Board 1st month informational, second month approve
o Coordinate with local personnel to plan services
Have interactive parents night use EMS personnel to help with presentation
