Journal Entry #2: Professionalism
Having Professionalism in a teaching situation is one of the most
important things for a teacher to have. As the leader in the classroom
it is up to you to not only teach but also demonstrate what
professionalism means to your students. To me professionalism is
another way of showing respect. I mean to be professional you have
respect and pride in what you do. You also show the same respect to
others. I think this concept really comes back to the workshop Its All
About the Children. As a teacher you need to give respect and dignity
to all students. Not only the AP, or gifted students, but all students
need it. In the aforementioned workshop I believe the idea of six
minutes was brought up. That the most important time of childrens
days can be compressed into such small time frames. As teachers we
spend more time with the students than their parents on most days. As
such we think much of the reasons of why a child is possibly not
performing to the best of their ability is because of something that
happened in school. Teachers can get tunnel vision on the importance
of what they do to not even consider what could happen outside of the
classroom. Many of my memories of the teachers who I really enjoyed,
were empathetic and caring to their students. They tried to treat all the
students well maybe not equal but certainly fairly. Of the different
levels of professionalism that was discussed in lectures and
presentations, I believe the most important is action. How efficiently

as well as command respect.
