Micro-teach Reflection
My micro-teach was an interesting experience it did not go as
smoothly as I had hoped. Some of the comments I received were
interesting. For example, the wish I had received the most was on
being more formal. I found this interesting in two ways. The first beings
f is my teaching style is not formal I joke around and talk with the
students. It was also difficult in dealing with my classmates as students
because, relationships had already been formed. Another wish I
received was the explanation of the rows vs. columns. I thought I kept
them separated correctly for the most part. It is possible I had
blinders on during my teaching. I can become fixated on one part to
the point I get the other parts jumbled in my head. The wishes were
mostly the same thing interesting way to present a difficult topic. I
think this lesson will still need to get the kinks worked out. From what
the wishes said possibly spend more time on clarity or on rows and
columns. My thought process of taking a complex thing and continually
breaking it apart did not work in the way I expected. I had hoped to
give a big scary term (commutative property of multiplication) and
continually break it into something much less scary. By helping the kids
find out the reason themselves (presenting a mystery). Looking
through the two stars and a wish again it is actually a good
demonstration of a real classroom. By this I do not mean the acting but
instead the needs of different students. As many stars and wishes were
conflicting: Needs more clarity, Explained difficult concepts well,
Candy would be eaten right up, Candy great motivator. I took away
two important lessons. The first being always find out when the timer
starts. The second being modification. It doesnt appear as if any two
students really learn alike whether they are grade 4s or university
students.
