Question 5
Charlotte Ysabel Connolly-Hayes
How did you
attract/address your
audience?
I appealed to my audience directly with the use
of the sell line ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll ain’t dead’ as
‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’ makes it clear to the reader what
type of music the magazine features. I also
attracted my audience with the use of obvious
classic rock references i.e. Pistols ‘n’ Daisies
which is a reference to Gun’s ‘n’ Roses.

I used the kinds of band names on my front

cover that the reader could associate with or
would find appealing such as White Stallion
which is arguably not dissimilar to the names
of other classic rock bands such as
Whitesnake or Bill and Ted’s 80s rock band Wyld
Stallyns in the movie Bill and Ted’s Excellent
Adventure
There are also names of actual classic
rock bands on a banner at the bottom
of the page which is somewhat a
secondary feature to the large printed
band names in the centre of the page,
but the bands named at the bottom of
the page in the ‘reviewed’ section are
used to attract the product’s target
audience so that even if they do not
know the bands featured on the cover,
because of the other band names that
they know they would realise that the
magazine itself revolves around the style
of music associated with those bands.
I used the cover lines on my
magazine to appeal to my
audience as well particularly
with a reference for download
festival. Amongst the pictures
on my blog of things I believe
would appeal to or be
associated with my audience
there is an image of the
Download logo. I used this
knowledge of my audience to
address and encourage them
to connect with my magazine.
Festivals are a subject I know
the audience for my magazine
would be interested in and so I
used it appeal to them.
The image on my contents page I have used to appeal to my audience,
after doing research on my audience and the kind of people featured in all
classic rock magazines I was very particular in choosing what I wanted my
model to wear as this image needs to be associated with the style
of the bands listed next to it, otherwise the image would be Irrelevant and
pointless. I used images of the guitarist slash as a template for this image as
he has the clothing style for rock music and rock fans. I posted this image on
Facebook and requested feedback. The feedback that I received was
positive.
