Definition: Signature on the back of a check
What does an endorsement do?
* Endorsing a check for deposit
—An endorsement allows the payee to cash
the check, deposit the check or transfer
payment of the check to someone else.
— Different types of endorsements:
* Blank

+ RestrictiveKinds of endorsement
1 Blank and goneral endorsement - here endorsee simply puts his signature on
the tack of the instrument without writing name of the person in whose favor the
‘nsiument & endorsed (Blank) and where it puts the name of person then it is
Garr Endorsement.
2 jal or full endorsement - An endorsement with the direction to pay amount
menitioned in the instrument to a specified person or his order & the endorser
writes his signature under it
3 Pata endrsoment- Vien an endorser is willing to transfer to an endorsee only
a part of the amount of the instrument. Such an endorsement does not operate
negotiation of the instrumert. Not Valid Now
4. stcect An endorsement is said to be restrictive if it prohibits or
‘festicts the further negotlabllity of the instrument, The holder of such an
insiument can only receive the payment but he cannot —_— it further. An
Insttument can be made restrictive only by expressed words
6, Conditional endorsement =| imi the liability of the ers E.G. -"Pay Aor
