CHAPTER 1 : FORCE ON MATERIALS

Unit 1 : stress and strain

1. A tie bar has a cross sectional area of 125mm2 and its is subjected to pull
of 10kN. Calculate the stress.
2. A wire with 1.5mm diameter support a force of 1200N. Calculate the stress.
3. A bar has a length 2m and stretcheed for 5mm when the force is apply.

5. A steel bar is 10mm diameter and 2m long. It is stretched with a force of
20kN and extend by 0.2mm. Calculate the stress and strain.
Unit 2 : Youngs Modulus, Hookes Law and Tensile Test
6. A steel bar is stressed to 280Mpa. The modulus of elasticity is 205 Gpa.
