Evaluation Activity 4
Who would be the audience for
your media product?
I think the audience for our film opening is teenagers and early adults, in the 15-23
age range. In the grid above, the gender variation for thriller films is pretty much
equal, therefore I believe both males and females would be interested in our opening.
Because our cast consists of all females, I believe the film may be more appealing to
females as the content of our film may be something they can relate to. Also, due to
the fact we dont conform to the gender stereotypes where the male is stalking the
female, our thriller may widen our target audience as more people may want to see
our film because it is something that is unusual because it is different from societies
norms on gender.
I believe the rating for our film would most likely be a
15.
This is because our film would not be particularly
appealing to younger viewers due to
The villain character who they may be afraid of
The disturbing plot
They may not understand the film
The jumpy scenes
Our film opening is probably not appealing to an older
audience either due to
The fast pace of the film
The loud and jumpy noises that create tension
Plot twists and climaxs throughout the film
I think the rating would be 15 because there is nothing bad enough in it to
make it an 18, however the content may be slightly disturbing and
inappropriate for children under the age of 15. As seen on the grid on the
previous slide, the youngest viewer of a thriller film recorded on that was
aged 16.
Films similar to our own opening:
All 3 of these films appeal to me as I myself am a big fan of
thriller movies. The trailers and posters are the first things
that draw my attention to them, then I will look into the films
in more detail. I think they appeal to a similar audience of our
film opening.

The opening to our thriller has targeted our audience by ensuring there
are thriller conventions involved, like tension and uneasy-ness. Our
thriller opening conforms to real film openings through our camera angles
and the use of the establishing shot. Our location of our film was the
protagonists house (shot A). This could possibly make the audience
watching feel slightly 'creeped out' as this shot may be implying that was

this was a real movie and people went to view it in the cinema, it could
possibly result in them feeling a slight discomfort in their own home
because they may be thinking about what could [Link] filming,

she is walking. The point of view shot make the audience feel like they
are in the protagonists shoes. This may make them feel slightly uneasy
and tense, as previously in the opening we have made it clear there is

feel tense because from the outside it looks completely normal and
ordinary whereas inside they are aware there is a villain, and because the
protagonist is so blissfully unaware of what is inside, tension is

a scene from the film 'The Woman in Black (shot B) where an
establishing shot of the house could result in the audience feeling tense.
