WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE

FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?

AGE RATINGS

For my final piece, I have chosen my audience to be a

teenage / young adult fanbase, therefore I have censored it
to a 15+. By doing so, I have researched other horror films
with a low age rating, and then compared my sequence to
theirs. I have compared and researched films such as; The
Woman In Black, Insidious, The Ring, The Grudge and The
House at the end of the Street, and I believe that our film
has many aspects of these sequences, however, as it is a
Ghost Horror, the rating has to be a little higher compared
to another horror, as it can become very realistic in the film
for younger teenagers.

 I have also conducted some surveys to get a better view of my target

audience. I have surveyed people from a variety of ages, asking whether
or not they like horror films, I have presented my findings in a table

From this pie chart of my findings, you can see that 57% of people who like horror films are 16-18,
this shows a good sign that my rating is accurate as my target audience fit into the age range. Only
14% of over 18 year olds like horror films, therefore an 18+ rating would not be acceptable.

GENDER
For my audience, I have also had to think about what gender our target
audience would be. As our film has a female main character in it, it would
be appropriate to say that females would be more relatable to the film,
and therefore may watch it. On the other hand, as horror films are very
brave and scary, a male audience might fit perfectly as our film has a
sinister atmosphere which lads may be attracted to.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the audience for my film will be:
Male and Female sexes
Age 15-19
However, there can be some confusion as to whether younger viewers
may watch our film without age restrictions on things such as Netflix,
although we have not specifically targeted them. Our film will not
disregard any audiences therefore we could end up having a range of
viewers not matching our target audience.
