Children will understand why bones are important to our bodies
Children will recognize what a bone looks like
Objectives:
The child will be able to use fine motor skills to draw their hands and put bones in their hands
The child will be able to write their names on their papers
The child will be able to count out ten q-tips to use as bones
Standards: (PA Early Learning Standards)
I can rote count to 10 (2.1.1)
I can identify the letters in my name and write my name with a reference guide (1.1.2)
Content Information:
The content of this lesson is identifying that bones are a part of our bodies and an important part of our bodies. It is also a
math content lesson because the children will be counting materials. It is also writing, they will be required to put their
names on their papers.
Materials and Resources:
Skeleton Hiccups by Margaret McElderry
Construction paper
white crayons, or chalk
ten q-tips per child
glue
Procedure:
Motivation
Read the story Skeleton Hiccups
Activation of Prior Knowledge
Ask children why do they think we have bones?
Do you think we have bones in our hands?
How many bones do you think we have in our bodies? 206
Procedural Steps
1. Explain that we are going to be putting bones into our hands
2. Show them the teacher sample
3. Ask them to count out 10 q-tips to use as bones
4. Write their names on their papers with white crayons
5. Then draw their hands with white crayons or chalk
6. They can then glue the bones wherever they think they belong in the hand.
Closure
To wrap up have them bend the fingers in their hands and remind them that even if we dont think about it often we are
always using or bones and they are very important to us to live!
