been composed. The goal is for each area to be proficient or above. We would like to

make improvements to any areas that are currently in need. Please see the attached
action plan for improvement.
Part 2: Action Steps for Areas that are Identified as Basic
Category 1 - Student Achievement and Instruction
1. Information Literacy Standards are integrated into content instruction. AASL
Standards for the 21st-Century Learner are integrated into content instruction.

Current status: The media center provides patrons with an orientation, skills on
how to utilize the media center and find books, and instruction on how to find
information.

Action Plan: The media center will serve as the hub of critical thinking and inquiry
based learning in the school. The media specialist will provide students with
opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge of selecting and using information
in an ethical manner. The media specialist will integrate information literacy
standards into each lesson.

2. Collaborative planning includes both the Library Media Specialists and teachers to
ensure use of library media center resources that support on-going classroom instruction
and implementation of state curriculum and the GPS and CCGPS.

Current status: The media specialist works with teachers as they approach her
and request lessons and ideas involving information literacy.

Action Plan: The media specialist will create a flexible calendar in order to
promote collaboration in the school. The media specialist will email teachers to
let them know of openings in the schedule if they wish to participate in a lesson in
the media center or have the media specialist come to their classroom. The
media specialist will attend professional learning with information on the Georgia
Standards.

3. Professional library media staff are engaged in active teaching role/s.

Current status: The media specialist works with children in the library to
recommend books and other resources. The media specialist will work with
teachers to recommend resources if they request help.

Action Plan: The media specialist will follow a flexible schedule to deliver lessons
to students using differentiation and different styles to meet student needs. The
media specialist will collaborate with the classroom teacher to assess student
learning and whether the objectives were met for each lesson using different
formative assessments.

6. Student achievement is routinely assessed.

Current status: The classroom teachers assess student learning in the classroom
through various sources.

Action Plan: The media specialist will work with the classroom teacher to assess
student learning in a variety of different ways for each collaborative lesson.

Category 2 Technology
8. The school library media specialist integrates the use of emerging technologies as a
means for effective and creative teaching and to support P-12 students' conceptual
understanding, critical thinking and creative processes.

Current status: The media specialist integrates technology during lessons at

times. The media specialist will help students if they are currently using
technology for a project.

Action Plan: The media specialist will work to integrate technology into each
lesson seamlessly. She will use different strategies to familiarize students with
the technology used. Students will use technology to show understanding of
skills taught. The media specialist will be available to recommend technology
tools to students and teachers.

Category 4- Facilities, Access, and Resources

15. One of the national educational technology goals states: Effective and engaging
software and on-line resources will be an integral part of every schools curriculum. The
GALILEO Virtual Library provides Georgia students and teachers access to exceptional
on-line resources at no cost to the local school district.

Current status: The media specialist provides students and staff with the
password of Galileo. She instructs students and/or staff on Galileo if they request
help.

Action Plan: The media specialist will provide not only the password to Galileo,
but an introduction and tutorial to all staff and students.

Part 3: Area rated as proficient and develop an action plan to move the area to
exemplary
4. The library media center resources encourage and support reading, viewing, and
listening.

Current status: The media center is used by students and staff as needed for
reading materials. It appeals to patrons to be a welcoming place with occasional
display and frequent events such as story time, and Read Across America
activities.

Action Plan: The media center will be the backbone of the schools reading
program. Each week, there will be different activities such as book club meetings,
technology and production club meetings, and before and after school utilization
of the media center. The media specialist will work to keep up to date displays of

current resources that are available in the media center. The media specialist will
work to involve the parents and other community members with the media center.
