Item Analysis
Questions with lowest achievement:
Aldridge: #7, 18 (0%)
Oliver: #12, 14 (0%)
Burgos: #8, 9, 12, 14 (5.9%)
Clayton: #16, 24 (0%)
Williams: #9, 18 (5.6%)
Johnson: #16 (9.7%)
#4 was low for everyone, but not lowest - appeared problematic
#4, 7, 12, 14, 16 (and others) all deal with equations and inequalities from Unit 4 - many of us
didn't get there - this is encouraging!
Questions with highest achievement:
Oliver: #22 (75%)
Aldridge: #22 (75%)
Burgos: #21 (70.6%)
Clayton: #22 (80%)
Williams: #19 (55.6%)
Johnson: #22 (64.5%)
Strategies to improve achievement moving forward:
1. Problem Solving Strategies:
Students need a way to approach and break down word problems before they even solve - See
Ms. O'Meara's Problem Solving Bible
(https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ms3ho7CTlocYBelUL28l3DgtZ9JAiPjhi49GLKY4Uew/
edit?usp=sharing)
Students need to be fully aware of what the question is - identify the question words/markers and
have a way to know if they've answered the question in a logical way
2. Number Sense
Building ways to check that answers make sense in size and units
3. Perserverance
Scratch work as a class grade so they are encouraged to show work on benchmarks - build it so
it's familiar by EOC

Make sure in class we encourage (by grades/praise/examples) to solve every step until they reach
a conclusion.
Action Item:
Try benchmark again after Unit 4 is actually complete. Encourage students to try to show all
work. We think we will see huge improvement.
