Mediation Ground Rules

1.We agree to not dwell on things that happened

in the past, but instead look for solutions for
the future.

2.We agree to tell the truth

3.We agree to take turns speaking and listen

without interrupting

4.We agree to show respect by calling each other

by our first names (not he or she), not
blaming, attacking, or using put-downs, and by
asking questions for the purpose of
understanding.

5.We agree to stay away from establishing hard

positions and expressing ourselves in terms of
our needs. (Using I statements).

6.We recognize that, even if we do not agree

with it, each of us is entitled to our own
perspective.

7.We will speak up if something is not working for

us in mediation or if we need a break.
