FOCUS
AREA

Warm Up- Rob the Nest

Students are divided into 4 even teams
One player from each team runs to a central point to collect on bean bag
at a time and place it in their nest and tag the next player
The next student does the same
The aim is to collect the most number of bean bags
Students must perform the locomotion that the teacher calls- skipping,
leaping
Once all the bean bags are taken from the central point, students may rob
from other nests

(LLPA;
HBPA)

Warm Up- Stretch

Specific stretches to lengthen and warm involved body parts- students
may be asked to run this teaching component (non-participants can run
this component also or be involved)
Examples: hamstrings, calves, triceps, biceps, neck, back

(GS; RE)

Flat open surface

16 gym mats
distributed around
the room

(GS; RE)

Introduction of Locomotion
In a circuit formation, students will rotate through stations in even groups,
practicing locomotion skills;

Running, skipping, leaping, jumping, bear walks, crab walks

(GS; RE)

16 gym mats
distributed around
the room
4 Hoops
Beat board
Wedge

the room
8 Hoops
2 Benches
Marked lines

Introduction of Rotations
In previous groups students will continue in a circuit formation practicing
rotations at each set up station;

Log rolls, egg rolls, jump and half or full turn, pivot, forward and
backward rolls, cartwheels
(RE)

16 gym mats
distributed around
the room
Music Player
Music tracks

Progression of Cartwheel Rotation

Students will participate in a cartwheel circuit in groups of 4
Each station will be a progression of the cartwheel
Starting at a basic level, cartwheels around a hoop, moving towards a
more difficult level including continuous cartwheels

Locomotion and Rotation Sequence

Students in groups of 4 are to combine previously learnt locomotion and
practiced rotation skills to create a sequence of movements as a group
The routine should include a minimum of 2 locomotion and 2 rotation
elements and involve all group members

(GS; RE)
(GS; CA;
RS; LLPA)

8 gym mats
organised in line

Final Activity
Students are to line up in a singular line in front of organised mats
HPE2203_FPD_Gymnastics_2016

Individually students are to perform a cartwheel into a forward roll

The teacher determines if the student uses the correct technique or the
wrong and classifies them as an orange or a lemon
Once students have performed they can help judge
Objective is to get as many organs as possible
Learner Diversity

Have non-participants spot, help groups, judge final activity or run

stretching session- create series of stretches

Non-participants or weaker students may help spot positions

Smaller groups increases maximum participation

Have demonstrations of each activity and position to assist weaker

students understanding

Clear concise instructions

Provide activity alternatives- challenges and modifications for

weaker and stronger students

Confirm understanding of activity before commencement

Attend all groups and individuals- provide feedback,

encouragement and correction
