LIFERAFTS
Manual release of the liferafts can be
achieved by unfastening the stenhouse slip
securing the lashing around the container
whilst ensuring the ring on the end of the
painter is still attached to the HRU (hydrostatic
release unit). When the raft is thrown over the
site, the painter is pulled out until the CO2
cylinder is activated and the raft inflates.
The two liferafts on the portside are
designed for davit launching. This is achieved by
connecting the david tot the liferaft and hoisting the raft out of its cradle.
Pulling the webbing painter as opposed to the live painter will allow immediate
inflation of the raft. Personnel can then embark the liferaft before lowering to
the sea level.
Liferaft embarkation
Can be carried out in the following manner:
- Using the embarkation ladders rigged over the ships side.
- When abandoning the ship try to board the survival craft without getting
wet. It mai however be necessary to jump into the water before boarding
the raft.
- Never jump head first into the water
- Jump legs first
