Weekly Log 1: Tuesday January 14th = 6.

5 hours
Today I received an overview of the organization, filled out a little more paper work, and
met many staff. I also received my own phone line, email address, and office space, along
with my first assignment.

Journal: As I entered into the building of Catholic Charities, I did not know what to
expect. I was extremely nervous about the different things that I was going to face. When
I walked in with my supervisor, I signed a few more papers, she told my about my own
office space, phone, and email, and then she took me around to meet the staff.
When it comes down to meeting new people, including networking, I become very
nervous. Despite the fact that I had a cup of coffee the night before, I was a jittery mess.
What made things worse for me we that my anxiety had kicked in. My heart was besting
super fast! Deep down inside I really wanted to leave. Currently, at my place of business
of six years, I work with individuals in one room together; so when I was informed about
my own office space it started to become very overwhelming. I was very excited, but
couldnt handle the facts.
Because I will be working in the Basic Needs Program of Catholic Charities, I meet many
individuals who are connect in the program as well such as food benefits, shelter, and
electric. By the time I had finished meeting everyone, it was time for lunch. I was offered
to go out to eat by my supervisor and one of the staff members. That was an awkward
experience for me because I didnt know any them, and Im not a talkative person. So at
lunch I only spoke when I was spoken too.
When we returned to the office, there was a meeting that we had to attend. This meeting
talked about child predators, human trafficking, and how to identify them. This meeting
was very informative.
At the end of the day, I was given my first assignment. This assignment was of data
collection. I had to categorize the client satisfaction questionnaire forms, by placing the
yes and no answers along with demographics in separate columns. Then I had to tally
up each column with the total amount and turn it into my supervisor in report form.
Today was not only an overwhelming day, but yet successful.

Weekly Log and Journal

Weekly Log : This week I was out for Strep Throat = 0 Hours
Journal: This week I did not attend Catholic Charities due to my illness.
Weekly Log: Tuesday February 2 9:30-1:30 = 4.0 hours
Today I actually went to my own office for a few hours.

Journal: Today I worked in my office. It felt so great! I couldnt even believe I had my
own space. At my current job, Im used to going to my station and wiping it down, so
when I couldnt wipe it down I felt out of place. However, This morning I received some
news. My current supervisor is leaving next week. She took upon on a different job
position somewhere else. I was a little upset because I had gotten comfortable with her
and being around her, especially that she was familiar with Wilmington University. So I
will be with someone I did meet already. She was actually at my interview before I had
started.
So today I finished the assignment with the client satisfaction report. I was pretty please.
I also received papers to put in place and file. I was also told that I would be working
with refugees next week. Im pretty excited to do so. Furthermore, from what I was told I
will be working and assisting them with basic needs and other resources of services if
necessary.

Weekly Log: Friday February 19th from 10:30am-3:30pm

I completed the filing that I thought was completed. Waited for my supervisor to return
back from her meeting. We sat and she gave me grant information and research and the
contact information for the librarian to meet with her to teach me how to research for
funding using keywords.

Journal :
So today I spent hours completing filing that I thought was competed, but it wasnt. I had
lots and lots of filing to do. Few hours later, after breaking a sweat, that job was
completed. Honestly, I have never filed that many documents in my life. I just knew I
was going to get a paper cut, hurt my back or something; luckily, that didnt happen.
After filing, I took my break. Following my break, I waited for my supervisor to finish
her meeting.
In our meeting, she gave me information about grants and a few keywords to look up.
She also gave me information on a womens program that they have to search for funding
for that service. I was pretty excited about the program. Its called the Bayard House for
pregnant women or women with children under 18 months. Due to the fact that I enjoy
empowering women, I was very pleased to see this program being of some assistance. In
addition to this information, she also gave me the contact information on the Librarian at
University of Delaware. I was to make an appointment with her so that she can show me
how to search for funding using keywords. I called and made my appointment for
Monday February 22nd at 11:00am.

Weekly Log: Monday February 22nd

I received my call that my session had to be cancelled.
Journal
I received a call this morning that my appointment with the librarian was cancelled
because she was sick and that when she came back she would give me a call. I called my
supervisor to inform her of the cancellation. My supervisor had already told that she was
busy that Monday with loaded work for herself. Not only that, the project she needed me
start had to wait because I had to meet with the UD librarian first. So that day my day
was ruined.
Weekly Log: Week of the 28th-5th
Still no call from the librarian
Journal :
This week, I was waiting to hear back from the librarian, but no luck. So I called my
supervisor to keep her posted. Meanwhile, the librarian was still out of the office.
Weekly Log: Week of the 6th-12th

Journal : I called on Friday March 11th to see if the librarian was in the office. She
answered and apologized about calling out sick. We then scheduled it for Monday 14th.

Week 10
This week I had my meeting with the Librarian Carol for a few hours.

My meeting with Carol went great. She showed me how to use the database located at
the University of Delaware library. She explained two ways on how to search for federal
and government funding. For me, the site/database is very easy to use. The only thing
needed are key words to plug in the search for funding. When doing the search, there
are thousands of results that appear once keys words are plugged in the search. Out of
those results, you have to pick out which grant could apply to your organization.
The one thing I didn't enjoy about this meeting is the parking at UD. This campus is
extremely huge, I had to pay for parking, and walk a distant.

Week 11
This week I went to UD library and searched for funding using the database.
I was given a grant application to fill out for the Bayard House from my supervisor. So I
was able to narrow down what grants could apply to the Bayard House. Just when I
thought searching was super easy, well it wasn't. It's much more complex than I thought.
It demands so much time. It made sense because now I see why my supervisor couldn't
make it often to find grants because of her other obligations. It's very time consuming.

Week 12
This week I worked on the Bayard House grant research and application.

I worked on the Bayard House grant. In doing so searching for funding at UD, I realized
that it is hard to find open and or closed grants for pregnant women. Either I wasn't doing
something correctly or funding for that key word was difficult.
Week 13
This week I continued working and searching for funding for the Bayard House
application.
I focused on working on the Bayard House application until I was asked to work on a
different application. This application was called the Lawton Grant. My supervisor came
to me and said she apologized that she felt she wasn't being attentive enough.
Furthermore, she asked me to do that application because the due date was near. I felt
under pressure, but I didn't have a choice.

Week 14
This week I worked on the Lawton Grant.
Working on this application wasn't a bad. It required research about the organization,
including history. This application took several days because I had to gather lots of
information using old applications, and compile them along with numbers to answer the
application required questions. There were some questions I couldn't answer but my
supervisor said she'd fill that information out.

Week 15
This day was my last day to complete the hours for my internship.
Today was my last day at Catholic Charities. So I made my date due for my assignments.
I turned in my Lawton Grant and went over it with my supervisor. As we both felt
accomplished, I was excited to know I could feel out the application. When I started that
was a major concern, and it worked out well. Now I feel like I'm equipped to write
anything.
