Narrative Report
---Work Immersion---

It was the first day of our Work Immersion and I was actually excited
about it since this one was different from our usual ones. My friends and I met
in our school to figure out what could be the most accessible transportation to
go there. As we arrived at the Ortigas, we still waited for an hour so we could
enter the company. It was almost 11:00 am when we got in. We were given an
orientation about the company for about 30-45 minutes and proceeded to our
deployment in each department. I was with my friends in the “Treasury
Department”. One of the supervisors assigned me at the front desk with my
mentor, Ma’am Kristine. At first, I didn’t know what I could help because their
job was quite difficult to deal with since it needs soft wares and such
computerizing. Ma’am Kristine lend me a folder, which I figured was the
manual of the department, for me to read the organizational chart, objectives,
operations of the department. Lunch had passed and I returned by 1:00 pm.
She already gave me a task to do and that was to sort out post dated checks by
chronological order of months. After I finished the task, she gave me another
one which I need to detach all the promissory notes on each account in the
Visayas region. We finished our work at 4:00 pm since it was our dismissal
time. To be honest, first day was not so bad but it was surely tiring.

Second day approached and it was the same routine but the difference
was we didn’t commuted on our way because my friend brought a car for
convenience. In the morning, I was tasked to sort out loan vouchers from
Asialik Finance Corporation and Finaswide Credit Corporation. There were a
lot of papers but I managed to finish it properly. I also did a post dated check
warehousing where I checked the posting date, check no. and check amount. I
wasn’t an easy task for me because as I was doing it, I’m a bit sleepy that
moment. My eyelids were almost giving up on me but I fought the urge to sleep.
In the afternoon, I continued what was left when I had my lunch. Then, I also
removed again some promissory notes in Iloilo Branch for the month of August.

Third, Fourth, Fifth and the following days were again the same routine.
I finished different tasks in each day. I was also asked to send loan vouchers to
Accounting Offices, keep PND papers inside the vault for evidences in future
references. I removed preferred check warehousing lists in plastic cases,
stamped some checks. I organized transmittal of checks for cancellation and
recorded accounts and checks on the record book. I detached checks for pull
out and organized according to the client’s account name. In the duration of
my work, I made friends with my co-workers and one of their newly hired
employee. She was a fresh graduate from University of Manila with a course of
Financial Management. I wasn’t able to experience a hands-on technical
practice unlike my friends but that’s fine with me.

Working in the treasury department of a company was harder than I
thought because all I knew was that they will just handle the money of their
clients until it was paid. It needs a lot of effort and analyzation in that
department. Since my workplace was at the front desk, I also encountered
some unpleasing scenario where my mentor was arguing with some clients who
doesn’t know how to behave. I realized that you need a lot of patience in any
field of work since you’ll be encountering a lot of people.

On the last day of our work immersion, I was feeling a bit sad because
my work there was done. Before I went home, my mentor thanked me with the
help that I offered. She even said that without me, it could be so hard for her to
work when a lot papers were at her side waiting to be sorted out. I had been
part of their team and their everyday motivation was, “to help someone today”.
With me by her side in the two weeks of working, I think I just lived out that
phrase. The Work Immersion program really helped me a lot and I hoped that
incoming grade 12 students would experience it. It was indeed an amazing
work experience even it just lasted for 2 weeks.
