In this article, Benefits of Surfing For Children With Disabilities, talks
about an eight week surfing intervention for young children. There is a wide
range of children with disabilities in this study, which included intellectual
and learning disabilities. Most of the children have Down Syndrome, several
autism spectrum disorders, microcephaly, global developmental delays, etc.
The children all get suits and everyone gets tested on different things like
cardiorespiratory endurance, flexibility etc. All of the disabled children get
paired with an adult instructor for one on one surfing instruction. This article
was chosen because it talks about all of the disabilities people have.

In the article We Close Tonight off the Coast of San Diego Where This
Weekend There Was a First Ever International Competition for Disabled
Surfers" talks about a competition for disabled surfers. There are competitors
from all over the country taking part in the competition. The article also talks
about how hard it is for disabled people to be able to surf. A boy that was
blind from birth is helped out by a spotter that helps find waves for the boy.
Most of the disabled really love what they do and are not going to stop
because they are disabled. This article was picked because it talks about
surfers who are in a competition for the best surfer.

In this article Disabled surfers hit the waves talks about disabled
people who go surfing. In the article a young man talks about how he wants
to be treated like any other guy while he watches for waves. A bunch of
disabled people have got together and go surfing for the disabled. The man
that was born without a lower right leg has to use a blade like prosthetic leg

to be able to surf. There is a bunch of disabled people that have got hurt by
what they love doing. Most of the disabled got hurt but they never stopped
being active. The disabled have created a foundation called Challenged
Athletes Foundation. This article was picked because of the man that surfs
that is blind.
