Three Little Pigs Point of View

Grade: 2
Standard: RL.2.9 Integration of Knowledge and Ideas: Compare and contrast two
or more versions of the same story/text by different authors or from different
cultures.
Activity: The students will be divided into 4 groups. While taking turns to read
aloud, two groups will read The 3 Little Pigs by James Marshall and the other 2
groups will read The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka. They must
remember key factors and main characters in the story and ask relevant questions
to the opposing groups to compare and contrast the differences between the two
books.
Questions to consider asking the opposing group:
Who is the hero in the story? Why?
Why did the pigs build their houses?
Who is the villain in the story? Why?
What is the moral?
What could the characters have done differently to change the outcome?
Assessment: Teacher will ask each group a question referencing the information
they obtained from the opposing group and the information they gained from the
story their group read. Students confer and give the answer.
