Accomplishments
In the summer of 2010, I lived in Oaxaca, Mexico, for three
months. I spent my time with a local family in a small town outside of
Oaxaca City while working the local schools, promoting healthy eating
and good hygiene. I worked directly with local children and developed
relationships with them. No one in the town spoke English, I had to
learn Spanish quickly to educate the community. Together we planted a
community garden for the youth to grow and cultivate their food. I
learned to how to make decisions for myself and be open-minded to a
new culture. It was a learning experience where I was out of my
comfort zone and adapted to a new lifestyle.
