[COMPARISONS OF WIRED AND WIRELESS NETWORKS: A REVIEW 1*Navpreet Kaur, 2 Sangeeta

Wired Network setup uses physical cables and wires to connect and transfer data between
computers systems and other electronic devices. Most wired networks make use of ethernet cables to
establish connection on the local area network. Wireless network setup make use of radio
frequencies to connect and transfer data between computers on the wireless local area network.
Wired connection are reliable in data transmission for cables are less prone to noises compared to
wireless connections. Wireless connections are also relatively reliable, but they can sometimes be
unreliable on noisy environments. Interference is significantly less on wired networks, wireless
networks are more prone to interference that could slow down connection because of the potential
interference due to weather, other wireless devices, and obstructions between devices.
Wired networks are relatively faster than wireless and have better bandwidth having up to 100 mbps,
while wireless networks usually only have around 54 mbps depending on the wireless standard used.
Quality of service is better on wired networks. Wireless networks experience jitter, delays and other
factors that degrade quality of connection.

In wired networks (such as the Internet), packets are lost mainly due to congestion at the
routers, while in the wireless hop, packets are often lost due to random bit error caused by
fading or multi path eect[Optimal Allocation of Packet-Level and Byte-Level FEC in Video
