    NewLondon.Wehadatornadogothroughusin1994andJohncameinthatyearandstayeduntilhis
    deathonJanuary11,2005.Hefoughthisownbattlewithcancerinmanyforms.Hewenthometobe
    withGodwhenhispurposehereonearthwasdone.WewillmissJohneverytimewelookoutthe
    windowandseeallthathedidforthebirdsoftheFeather.

    John'ssonBradmarriedSheliainAugust2003.ThisisJohn's
    family.HiswifeNancy,hisdaughterStacyandherhusbandKarl
    andtheirtwosons,SamandJustin.Theseboyswerethelove
    ofJohn'slife.Hespokeofthemoften.ThesepeoplewereJohn
    Wieneke'slife.

    Inthespringof2003Johnandhischurchmembersrebuiltthe
    vultureandeaglecage.Eventhoughhehadjusthadmajor
    surgeryjusttwoweeksbefore.Hewasdeterminedtogetthis
    projectdone.Hehadgoodhelptocompletetheproject.

    DonBaumgartnerisholdingPiratethebaldeagleforanarticlein
    thelocalpaper.Johnhadjustfinishedtheheatedindoorpen

    forthebird.

    Inthespringof1999,JohnandIstartedamissiontoprotectthe
    mourningdovesfrombeinghuntedinWisconsin.Withthehelp
    ofagreatnumberofWisconsincitizenswefoughtthefightfor
    somefiveyearsandthedoveslostintheend.Johnputagreat
    dealoflovingenergyintothisissue.Heneverfalteredinhis
    beliefs.

    Johnalsohelpedoneducationalprogramsthatwedidwithour
    birds.ThiswastakenatNavarinoNatureCenteroutof
    Shawano.Hedidagreatjobatworkingthebirdsforthepublic
    toseeandlearn.

    IthinkofallthebirdshereattheFeatherJohnandIsharedthe
    mostcommonbondwiththesandhillcranes.In2003this
    bandedcranewasreleasedfromhereandonApril262004he
    returnedtotheyard.IcalledJohnandhewaselatedatthis
    event.Johnhelpedtobandthereleasablebirdsattimes.Over
    thetenyearperiodhesupervisedthebuildingofoversome500
    feetofseparatecages.Froma120footflighttoa12"x12"
    hummingbirdcagetoshiptoFlorida.Hehadalotofgoodhelp,
    butusuallyendedupputtingallthefinishingtouchesonhimself.

    AmemorialwasestablishedinJohn'snameandtheFeather
    receivedpartofit.Thephotototherightiswhatwedidin
    memoryofJohn.


    OnJanuary11,2005mygoodfriendJohnWienekewenthome
    tobewithGod.Hehadlivedhislivefromstarttofinishandthat
    wassome59years.HebelievedJesusChristwashispersonal
    saviorandIbelievethatJohnisdoingjustfineinthekingdomof
    God.Wemisshimhereonearth,butknowthathedidwhathe
    wassenttodoandnowisatpeace
